It is the third title in a Wta 500, the first ever on grass. Daria Kasatkina returned to winning on the major circuit almost two years after that double of successes obtained in San Jose and in Canada in Granby (respectively in early and mid-August 2022).

For the Russian player, it’s a great confidence boost ahead of the upcoming start of Wimbledon, the third Slam of the season. After coming from behind to beat Italian Jasmine Paolini in the semifinals, the 27-year-old managed to prevail in two sets over Leylah Fernandez, who has been performing very well this year on this surface.

The Canadian tried but had to postpone the appointment with the first trophy on a court other than hard court. The 21-year-old from Montreal lost serve at the start of the match and was thus forced to chase the score.

Kasatkina took advantage of the situation, having to cancel break points only in a very long sixth game. Another break then handed the set to the native of Togliatti, who was able to be aggressive on the return and to exploit the opportunities.

The second set had two faces: after an initial push by the Russian, Fernandez reacted and took courage with two consecutive breaks (4-3) but at the most beautiful moment she ran into difficulty again and lost 6-4.

To Bad Homburg vince Diana Schneider

Diana Shnaider won the title in this week’s other WTA 500 event on grass in Bad Homburg, Germany.

The second trophy this year for the Russian, after her victory in Thailand in February. In two hours and 13 minutes of battle, the 20-year-old tennis player was able to finally get the better of world number 49 Donna Vekic. 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 was the final score that gave a nice victory to Shnaider.
