The Control Room announced by Visma | Lease a Bike as a major innovation for the 2024 Tour de France continues to be a topic of discussion. During the Grande Boucle, it wants to use this van that acts as a control center, allowing its analysts to monitor numerous data and race images in real time to possibly propose tactics and strategies to the sports directors in the team car. A solution that does not seem to have pleased the UCI, despite the reassurances that the Dutch team immediately sent, but which also sees ASO not exactly in favor.
The organizer of the Grande Boucle has in turn taken a contrary position, making a concrete gesture against the use of this means. Christian Prudhomme’s team has in fact decided not to allow the vehicle to be present in the caravan, depriving it of the necessary pass to be able to travel the race route during the race, unless they are stopped in one point at the moment the runners pass. The team’s work on paper could thus be a little more complicated, with the information at that point risking being transmitted with a slight delay.
