After a day without medals, Italy immediately wants to make up for the European Championships in Basel. The team competitions begin and we start with the women’s épée (Rossella Fiamingo, Mara Navarria, Giulia Rizzi, Alberta Santuccio) and the men’s foil (Guillaume Bianchi, Alessio Foconi, Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Marini). Both quartets are chasing the gold medal and are probably also the two favorite teams.

In the female sword Italy presents itself as number one on the scoreboard and as the main favorite for the gold medal, but before reaching the last act there will probably be the most complicated challenge for the Italians. After the fourth with Sweden and Israel, the Italians they should face France in the semi-finals, probably the real rival of our standard bearers. Of course, the French will first have to emerge unscathed from the very complicated quarter-final against European champion Irina Embrich’s Estonia.

In the lower part of the scoreboard, however, Poland, number two in the seeding, seems to have a clear path towards the final, given that Ukraine, Hungary and Switzerland do not seem to be opponents who can bother the Poles.

In the men’s foil there should be a duel between Italy and France. The Azzurri absolutely appear as the underdogs and as the national team to beat, but pay attention to the French as their main rivals. The various Poland, Germany, Great Britain and Hungary all seem very distant.

The blue quartet will begin his journey already from the quarter-finals. Italy is seeded number and will face the winner of the match between Spain and Belgium. Everything seems set for the semi-final against Germany or Hungary, while, as already mentioned, the final will most likely be against rival France, who should have no problems in the semi-final with Poland or Great Britain.
