Marco Belinelli he was in Turin yesterday to participate in the inauguration of the Ruffini Park playground and was interviewed by Tuttosport. It was an opportunity to take stock of the recently concluded season, made up of victories and defeats but also of some personal recognition which seems to help remove the specter of competitive retirement for a “boy” who is turning 38 (born in 1986 ).
Beautiful but not satisfactory season. “In my head I’m not happy. When you finish the season and only manage to win the Super Cup, but you fail to win the Italian Cup and the Scudetto, and you don’t end the regular season in the top eight of the Euroleague, then you think that there is work to be done to improve and that it could have been done better. But it was still a good season, which will be one to remember for me and the team. I felt a different love and warmth than in the past for Virtus and Bologna football. We came within one win of the Euroleague playoffs. We didn’t finish among the top eight in Europe, but we improved our position compared to the previous year. But now we need to reflect and think about planning the future.”
The victory of the “Dino Meneghin Trophy”. “Winning the MVP of the Italian championship, especially at 38 years old, is a positive thing and fills me with pride. The many changes this year starting from last September have given me the opportunity to play and give a tangible hand to the team. It probably never happened last year for many reasons.”
Belinelli now looks to the future, pushing away the idea of retirement. “I have to meet with the club to talk about many things and, in particular, future projects and see what team Virtus will be next, hoping that there may be the possibility of growing and becoming even more competitive. I always enjoy playing and I want to continue doing it.”
