A great former pupil of the Tuscan coach has decided to say goodbye to playing football after a career as an absolute idol.

One of the great exclusions from the incredible rotation of benches that has occurred in recent weeks between the last days of the championship and the end of the season is certainly Maurizio Sarri. The Tuscan coach resigned around mid-March as Lazio coach after some misunderstandings in the locker room and a less than positive team performance.

A few days ago, all the media and paper and online information sites reported an interview with him in which the coach confessed that he was disappointed because no top-level team, in Italy or abroad, had contacted him to offer him a bench or at least to confront him about a project you can start.

He he would have named Fiorentina and Milan as teams that would have been right for him. After these statements were reported, however, Sarri wanted to point out that he had never spoken in that way and that his words had been exploited. However things went, however, it now seems quite clear that the former Napoli and Juventus coach is heading towards the declining phase of his career.

A career that it lived its years of greatest splendor especially in Naplesbut which then led him to success and to bringing home important titles in the two seasons between Chelsea and Juventus where, despite being sacked at the end of the year, he managed to bring home a Europa League and the last of the nine consecutive Scudetti of the Old lady.

From Higuain to Cr7, up to Callejon. Sarri’s former pupils

There are many players who have improved under his wise direction, but above all there are several attackers who have enjoyed fantastic seasons with him marked by goals. Above all we remember Gonzalo Higuain and Dries Mertens at Napoli, but also Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus and Ciro Immobile at Lazio.

The three seasons experienced were certainly unforgettable for all Neapolitans in the shadow of Vesuvius. Years in which Napoli failed to win any title, coming close to winning the Scudetto in 2017/2018but in which he scored the all-time record for points in Serie A (91 in 2017/2018) and played fabulous, dream football that will never be forgotten in those parts.

Callejon, farewell to Granada a year early

Of that team the Spaniard José Maria Callejon was part of it who was a key man in Sarri’s 433. One of those irreplaceable players for the Tuscan coach because he is able to best interpret the two phases and give balance to the team. After his experiences with Napoli and Fiorentina, the winger returned to Spain, to Granada to be precise, in what can be considered his home.

Callejon he had the dream of bringing Granada back to La Liga and he succeeded, also having a great season, just over a year ago. Thus, the renewal of his contract until 2025 was also triggered. In the season just ended, however, the Spaniard was unable to avoid his team’s relegation, even playing very little. A huge disappointment for the former Napoli player who thus decided to terminate his contract early. Now, only one thing remains to understand: will it be goodbye only to Granada or to football in general?
