Rugby and oncology, traveling prevention on the beaches

He’s leaving the second edition of the «Vittoria for Women Tour»the traveling journey created by Vittoria Assicurazioni in collaboration with the Specchio dei Tempi foundation and the Italian Rugby Federation (Fir) to raise awareness and inform women and men about the crucial role played by prevention of oncological diseases in their own lives and in those of those close to them. A tour in six stages, within the framework of the Italian beach rugby trophy, which will start on 22 June from Milano Marittima and end on 28 July in Capaccio Paestum after having traveled across Italy from north to south.

«Our goal is to communicate the importance of prevention by reaching out to people also through collaboration with our agencies present in the area», says Matteo Campaner, general director of Vittoria Assicurazioni. Accompanied by the claim «Female prevention is our goal”, in each stage there will be a Maxi Ducato called “VittoriaBus”: a traveling information and prevention centre, used as a medical room for a free breast examination. «Last year – says Campaner – we performed 1,048 medical visits finding 31 suspected cases (thirty women and one man) and inviting these people to carry out further investigations.” In total, 964 women and 84 men were examined, and “we know with certainty that one woman subsequently underwent a surgical operation”. The Maxi Ducato was purchased thanks to the fundraising promoted in 2023 and the contribution of the Insurance Company. This year a new fundraiser will be launched aimed at purchasing one or more mobile ultrasound machines to further expand the operation throughout the country.

«We share this initiative with Vittoria Assicurazioni because our relationship is also based on common and shared values», explains Marzio Innocenti, president of the Italian Rugby Federation. During the tour, which last year saw the participation of 70 percent of the men’s teams and 90 percent of the women’s teams registered in the Italian beach rugby trophy, «people come to see a sporting event but the mobile clinics are an opportunity to have an accurate medical examination and be notified of a situation that needs to be treated and managed. Correct oncological prevention is necessary, most of the time male breast cancer is diagnosed late because men don’t think about it.” The Italian Rugby Federation has always been involved in social issues, including with initiatives for gender equality or with Bingham Cup, inclusive rugby tournament. «Sport already encourages you to live in a healthy way – says Innocenti – but here in addition there is the fact that rugby has among its values taking care of others and a sense of community».

This year, participants will be able to test an innovative digital health solution developed by «Come Stai», a company established by Vittoria Servizi in collaboration with the De Pasquale Group, which will allow them to monitor the most important vital parameters and receive the outcome of the check up directly on your smartphone. Other initiatives promoted by Vittoria Assicurazioni include the AssiCuriamo-Insieme social tender, to promote and finance projects aimed at combating gender violence and preventing female diseases; the Vittoria for Women Run, the Company’s annual corporate run open to the entire city of Milan to inform about prevention; and The Numbers of Prevention, where each shirt number, worn last April 20th by the players of the Italian women’s national rugby team in the pre-match of Italy-Scotland, was associated with a concrete and positive data on prevention. «We will continue to promote activities for greater social awareness. Our goal – concludes Campaner – is also to develop an insurance ecosystem in which the paradigm changes whereby if you have suffered damage I not only provide you with compensation but I also help you prevent or resolve the problem”.
