What the organizers of the Gran Fondo Terre dei Varano are experiencing is truly a “work in progress”. After the great success of the MTB event, over the weekend there will be a 3-day event dedicated to super-lightweight racing, with the time trial on Friday, the randonnée on Saturday and the grand finale with the road Granfondo on Sunday and every day, in the headquarters of the organizing committee, a river of adhesions flows. A week before the race, over 500 registrations had been received, but it is a number destined to grow enormously for Sunday.
Camerino is ready for the event, fully involved for a weekend completely dedicated to cycling. Not only in its sporting aspect because the influx of many enthusiasts from all over Italy brings unprecedented tourist success. Suffice it to say that the city’s entire supply of beds has been exhausted for over two months. At the top of the attendance stands Rome, the first province represented and leader of the great attention that the race receives throughout Italy, despite a weekend full of coincidences.
As mentioned, the event program will start on Friday at 4pm with the first of the starts of the time trial, scheduled in Le Calvie on a route of 3.1 km for 288 meters with arrival in Piazza Cavour in Camerino. On Saturday there will be space for the randonnée, the cycle excursion that will start from 6am from the Rocca Borgesca di Camerino through a route almost completely designed in the heart of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, 2.8 km long with a difference in altitude of 4,095 metres. Naturally there will be no ranking, it will be an opportunity to get to know the reality of an enchanted territory up close.
On Sunday there will be space for the Granfondo which will also be valid as the Italian Fci Granfondo Championship for the long route of 125.5 km with a difference in altitude of 2,486 meters and the Tricolore Interforze for the medium one, 101 km for 1,691 metres.. The outgoing champions, Danilo Celano and Loretta Giudici, have already participated in the test. Registrations still open at a cost of 50 euros until Friday. On Saturday you can still join at a cost of 55 euros. Race numbers and packets can be collected on Saturday from 3pm to 8pm on Sunday from 6am to 7am in the secretariat near the start in Viale G.Leopardi, from where the race will start at 7.45am for the Marathon and 8am for the Classic.
