ATP HALLE, HISTORY AND CURIOSITIES

The Terra Wortmann Open, promoted from ATP 250 to ATP 500 in 2015, has been on the calendar since 1993. The Centrale, now known as the Owl Arena, can hold 11,500 spectators and includes a roof that closes in 88 seconds. The facility has also hosted Davis Cup matches, figure skating shows, German volleyball cup finals, and even concerts: here, among others, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Lionel Richie, Eros Ramazzotti, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Elton John.

Returning to tennis, in the history of the Terra Wortmann Open there is one name that stands out above all. It is the name of Roger Federer who has triumphed ten times (2003–06, 2008, 2013–15, 2017, 2019). A road leading into the facility is named after him, the most successful champion in the history of the tournament. In doubles, the roll of honor is dominated by Raven Klaasen, champion in three editions (2015–16, 2019).

As for the Italians, the best result remains the final reached in 2015 by Andreas Seppi, defeated by Federer. There were also two doubles finals: in 2013 Daniele Bracciali and the Israeli Jonathan Erlich lost to Santiago Gonzalez/Scott Lipsky; in 2023 Simone Bolelli/Andrea Vavassori surrendered to Marcelo Melo/John Peers.
