URC, Bulls-Glasgow Warriors final: date, time and venue made official

Once again the winning team of the United Rugby Championship will be decided in the Southern Hemisphere. The final of the 2023/24 season, which will see the challenge between the Vodacom Bulls and the Glasgow Warriors, will in fact be played at Loftus Versfled in Pretoria.

Thanks to the South Africans’ 25-20 semi-final victory against Leinster. The Bulls, by virtue of their results during the season, managed to play all the playoff phases, first with Benetton and then with the Irish, in front of their own fans. Now they are preparing to play the URC final there too, as has become tradition.

Since the former Celtic tournament was renamed the United Rugby Championship (URC) with the entry of four South African teams, the final has always been played in South Africa. Of course, there have only been three editions so far, but the simple fact that they all ended in the Southern Hemisphere is an indicator of how much the four South African teams have raised the level of the competition.

In the previous two editions the URC final has always been staged in Cape Town, home of the Stormers. This time, however, they were already eliminated in the quarter-finals, at the hands of the other team that will compete for the championship victory: Franco Smith’s Glasgow Warriors.

A team, the Scottish one, which has really made the leap in quality, also confirmed by the success, against the odds, in the semi-final away to Munster, the team that had finished the regular season in first place. And now coach Smith, a South African, is ready to play in a URC final in his home country, despite being in charge of a Scottish club. The decisive match is scheduled for Saturday 22 June at 6.00 pm Italian time, as made official by the championship board.
