heartbreaking for purists

For those who grew up in the 90s, the Booster is a true myth. Yamaha has decided to bring it back but in a completely different guise.

It was 1988 when a truly revolutionary scooter arrived on the market. Let’s talk about Yamaha Booster, which during the 90s became a true icon, a must-have that all kids wanted to have. The original idea was that of a high-wheeled scooter suitable for the beach, hence the acronym “BW” for “Big Wheels” under which it was sold in the USA.

But it soon became one of the most widespread “fifties” in Italian and European cities, with a history that only ended in 2018. Today, however, that name has been brought up again by Yamaha for another model, but an ebike one, which also inherits the original idea, that of a massive two-wheeled vehicle, capable of conquering with its shapes and versatility. Among many offers from the Japanese brand, this is perhaps the most interesting.

Here’s the Yamaha Booster again, here’s how it changes

This is an ebike available in two versions: the first is the Booster Easyhalf with pedal assistance, the second simply Boosters which is nothing more than an S-pedelec approved as a moped. The Easy model is certainly the most original, starting from the shapes with an exposed aluminum frame, but the spoked rims and oversized 20″ x 4″ tires also stand out. It then features a telescopic fork with 80 mm of travel and 180 mm disc brakes on both wheels.

The heart is the Yamaha PW-S2 engine (with power of 250W and a torque of 75 Nm), which weighs only 2.85 kg, which with its central position allows for a truly perfect center of gravity. The battery is 36 V with a capacity of 630 Wh and it can be charged either mounted on the Booster or even by removing it from the ebike to take it home or to the office, in short, wherever you are.

The electronic part is really sophisticated, given the vehicle: the on-board computer is a 1.7″ LCD display mounted on the left side of the handlebar and allows you to choose between five pedaling assistance modes (+Eco, Eco, STD, High and Auto). With the first mode, you can also reach 120km of autonomy. The price is 3,299 euros and also includes a 3-year Yamaha warranty.
