Turin is preparing to welcome the Tour de France. It does so by hosting one of the trophies from the event in the Region’s skyscraper. It’s about the “Grand Depart”, which accompanies the race in the first three stages (out of twenty-one). This year the Tour, now in its 111th edition, will start from Italy for the first time in its history. The start is scheduled for June 29th, in Florence. Turin will be involved the first of July, day of the third stage, which will start from Piacenza and arrive in Turin. With its 230 kilometers it will be the longest stage in the history of the yellow race. Our territory will also be involved July 2, the date of the fourth stage, which will start from Pinerolo and enter France, in the city of Valloire.

Today the trophy was displayed in the atrium on the ground floor of the Region’s skyscraper. It was presented by Alberto Cirio, newly re-elected governor of Piedmont, and Stefano Lo Russo, mayor of Turin. The trophy will remain in Piazza Piemonte, Nizza Millefonti district, until June 27th. On 28-29-30 June it will be on display at Palazzo Madama, hosted by the Municipality of Turin.

«The Tour de France is the third most followed sporting event in the world after the Olympics and the football World Cup: for our territory, in promotional terms, it is a great opportunity” says Alberto Cirio.

For a few days, yellow flags and banners have been posted along the streets of the city. It is on display under the arcades of Via Po an exhibition on the departures of the Tour outside the French borders. The city, in the next few days, will be animated by flash mob dedicated: «They are part of the process of approaching the event: a great showcase for the city» underlines mayor Lo Russo.
