Another tight sprint on the streets of Tour of Slovenia: the second stage – the 177.9 km Žalec-Rogaška Slatina – saw the success of the German Phil Bauhaus which preceded by a few centimeters Alberto Dainese. Their teams, Bahrain Victorious and Tudor Pro Cycling, were the most active in going to resume the day’s breakaway.

After an initial breakaway by six men, which allowed Davide Baldaccini (Corratec Vini Fantini team) to wear the indigo GPM jersey tomorrow, a second attack from afar was led by Mikkel Honoré (EF Education Easypost), Connor Swift (Ineos Grenadiers), Pau Miquel (Equipo Kern Pharma) and Martin Marcellusi (VF Group Bardiani Csf Faizanè) with the latter losing contact, with great misfortune for Marcellusi who was the victim of mechanical problems. At -8 km only Honoré remained who insisted with determination, giving up only 2 km from the end.

Then, as mentioned, it was a sprint, albeit without a few sprinters weakened by the walls strewn along the route in eastern Slovenia: among the illustrious absentees was yesterday’s winner Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco AlUla team). Of note are several other Italians in the top-10 (Covi, Fiorelli, Lonardi and Moschetti) and unfortunately at -300 meters a fall in which several runners were involved.

For Bauhaus this is the second success of the season after the victory in the third stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico. The German from Bahrain Victorious is also the new leader of the race. Opportunities for climbers and attackers will begin tomorrow.
