In Emilia-Romagna, more and more people are choosing to donate blood, a simple but precious gesture especially in view of the summer holiday period and Carpi is no exception.
After an excellent 2023 during which the remarkable milestone of 6,000 donations has been reached, of which 3,184 were plasma, the first months of 2024 reveal further margins for improvement as explained by the president of Avis Carpi, Arianna Soragni: “from 1 January to 31 May, a total of 2,679 units have already been donated, 41 more than in the same period of the previous year. Plasma production also grew, reaching 1,676 in these first five months, marking a +62 compared to 2023. In short, it seems there are all the conditions to be able to have a record year.” Plasma donation is very important since the liquid part of the blood is used to produce life-saving drugs administered for numerous pathologies such as immunodeficiencies or neuropathies, drugs that allow patients not only to survive, but to live a normal life. “To encourage this particular type of donation – continues Arianna Soragni – we have added another new generation dedicated machine in the collection room which allows us to shorten the times, a way to meet the needs of those who have to deal with tight deadlines .
Over 3 thousand Avis Carpi members and, since 1 January, as many as 150 have approached the association and made their first donation. “To celebrate the World Blood Donor Daywhich occurs on June 14, and to try to involve and raise awareness of more and more young people, we have decided – concludes Soragni – to organize a Beach Volleyball Tournamentin the fields of via Sigonio, in collaboration with the World Cup, Sunday 23 June”. A sensitivity, that shown by the army of blood donors, in Carpi as well as throughout Emilia Romagna, which allows the Region to confirm its self-sufficiency and at the same time to send support to those in difficulty: in the first five months of 2024 1,860 units of blood were supplied to other regions.
