Good morning friends of OA Sport and welcome to the LIVE live from the fifth stage of the Tour of Switzerland 2024, a short stage race that precedes the highlight of the month of July, the Tour de France. After the spectacle of the Gotthard Pass, another uphill finish awaits the runners present at the 87th edition of the Swiss race, an excellent stage to best prepare for the now imminent Grande Boucle.

Today’s section promises to be one of the toughest. Despite the apparent brevity (148.6 km), today’s route includes some truly challenging bumps. Right from the start the day will not be easy for the runners. After less than 10 km, the group will face the second category GPM of Altanca (5.2km at 8.4%)followed in turn by the GPM of Dear (7.7km at 9.8%). After a technical descent, the road to climb right at the end of the stage, facing the same descent but in reverse, for the third GPM of the day (10.2 km at 8%) which will close the race.

After yesterday’s session, Adam Yates (UAE Emirates) he harpooned the first position in the general. The Briton inflicted an important selection on the Gotthard Pass, taking second place in the stage and the yellow jersey as leader of the classification.
