The Città di Crema is blue

Cream – The history of the Città di Crema tournament tells of 17 editions in which it happened only once that two Italian players won both singles titles, in 2017 with Luca Nardi and Lisa Pigato. However, at least judging by the numbers the record seems to be in great danger this year, given that in both the men’s and women’s draws 12 of the 16 names left in the running are Italian. Even before the second round there is already the certainty of one of our players in the semi-final on both sides, but the trend suggests not to settle and aim even higher, because the Italians are many and play great, as reiterated by a Tuesday which saw numerous of them among the protagonists. Among the girls, four of ours won, starting with the Milanese Beatrice Vittoria Gatti who not only immediately sent the third seed Lara Linder, from Austria, packing her bags, but did so without leaving her even a single game in a match dominated from the first to the last ball. Also out among the top seeding favorites is number 4 Bianca Baroglio, defeated in three sets in an Italian derby by Vittoria Medina from Monza. Among the Italians also ahead were Francesca Borreani and Beatrice Cocomazzi (in a comeback against Francesca Paoletti Agosti), while Mavero and Maffi surrendered, beaten respectively by the Austrian Soier and the Romanian Dumitru. In the “boys” draw, however, the blue protagonist of the day was Lorenzo Elia, competing with a wild card. At the start of the programme, on Centrale, the young player born in 2008 from the province of Savona took out the Russian Alexander Burmakin, the fourth strongest player on the scoreboard, in two comfortable sets, prevailing 6-3 6-1. Instead, he promoted the other two seeded players playing on Tuesday, but it was very tough for both of them. The Polish Maksymilian Kwiatkowski (2) defeated Martino Scotuzzi 3-6 6-2 6-3 and on Wednesday he will be the opponent of Giovanni Enrico Boi (6-4 6-2 to Mattia Cona), while the Spanish Adrian Oltean Achacollo ( 3) it took him almost five hours to win a duel of rare intensity against Petar Ciangherotti from Verona, the reigning Italian under 14 champion. After winning the first set and surrendering the second in a tie-break, the blue went on to lead 5-2 in the third, with a match point available, but faded at the best moment and ended up losing five games of line. For Italy, Michele Maniglia and Mattia Logrippo are also forward, both scoring in derbies. Wednesday in Crema we start at 8.30 in the morning: all the men’s and women’s second round matches are scheduled, followed by the quarter-finals of the doubles. Free entry.
