KTM: no Marquez, yes Acosta. The reasons behind the Austrian manufacturer’s choice not to sign Marc Marquez for 2025.

With the newly confirmed official documents, those pieces of the KTM Marquez Acosta puzzle are falling into place: Why did the agreement between Marc and the Austrian manufacturer fall through? What does Acosta have to do with all this? Here’s how things went.

This agreement should not be made!

It was known that Marc Marquez was also in negotiations with KTM. The Spaniard was filmed several times while he entered the orange hospitality to talk about his future; but why then was the contract not finalized? KTM recently explained the reason for the decision and the main reason concerns the young rampant rookie, Pedro Acosta. At the moment KTM is totally focused on the young Spaniard and consequently they preferred to focus on the younger horse rather than one old chicken like Marc. Pedro, despite already being a multiple world champion, due to his age (21 in May), can still be shaped and for this reason Mattighofen wants to keep him close. He obviously wants to create the perfect driver for the RC16. The Vice President of KTM, Hubert Trunkenpolz, explained the reasons for the choice:

“The renewal of the contract with Pedro Acosta has been our top priority lately. There have been no negotiations with Marc Marquez regarding 2025. We have never spoken specifically to him why we have always given priority to Acosta. We did everything we could to secure Acosta for 2025 and 2026. Other than that, there are several options to continue with him. Stefan Pierer, Pit and I agree that Marc is not an option for us.”

“We want to give Pedro the space and opportunity to become an absolute superstar with us. This wouldn’t be possible if he had Marc Marquez in the garage next to the GASGAS Tech3. We don’t need all this attention. Acosta also pursues the goal of becoming MotoGP World Champion while Marquez is still competing. We will actively support him in achieving this goal“.Hubert Trunkenpolz
