After the first two exciting days, the third day of the European Athletics Championships is also full of events with the Italians as protagonists. Sunday 9 June starts at 9am with the men’s half marathon in which Italy will field its leading standard bearer, the Italian record holder over the distance Yeman Crippa with Pietro Riva, Eyob Faniel, Yohanes Chiappinelli, Pasquale Selvarolo And Daniele Meucci.
They will have to contend with, among others, the Swiss Julien Wanders, holder of the European record since 2019 (59:13). In the women’s event (9.30 am) the group of the best includes the naturalized Africans Joan Chelimo Melly (Romania) and Melat Yisak Kejeta (Germany). Italian hopes entrusted to Sofia Yaremchuk.
The day’s program includes qualification in the men’s high jump (11.35 am) with our super champion Marco Tamberi who should have an easy game, while in the women’s high jump final (8.28 pm) the star of the world and European champion, the Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh, will most likely shine, without however underestimating our Elena Vallortigara, recent world bronze in Eugene. In the semi-final of the men’s 200 meters (9.39 pm) what to expect from the Italian colors that field two of the Olympic champion relay runners Fausto Desalu and Filippo Tortu?
At 10.40pm it will be the turn of the women’s 1500 meters final. With the reigning Scottish champion Laura Muir absent, the gold seems to be a question between UK athletes, from the Irishman Mageaan silver in Monaco, to the Scottish Reekie, to the Englishman Snowden, with our Ludovica Cavalli, Sintayehu Vissa And Marta Zenoniready to subvert the predictions.
While in the women’s 100 meters final, competing for victory against the British Dina Asher-Smith and the German Gina Lückenkemper, silver and bronze respectively at Munich 2022, will be the Italians Anna Bongiorni And Zayban Dossothe latter world bronze over 60 meters in Glasgow last winter.
