Giro del Dauphiné 2024, Derek Gee doesn’t stop dreaming: “I’m curious to see how my legs will react to a tough stage like today”

The dream week of continues Derek Gee to the Tour of the Dauphiné 2024. For the runner of Israel-Premier Tech the first six stages of the French race were a continuous surprise and, after the victory and the Yellow Jersey achieved in the third stage with arrival in Les Estables, the following days also highlighted an enviable state of form after the long stop in which the Canadian was forced due to a fall at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad last February. On the eve of the seventh stage, which will take the runners to the 1600 meters of Samoëns, however, the 26-year-old doesn’t want to stop dreaming.

Gee, while admitting that the stage is very hard and perhaps not exactly suited to his characteristics, says he is ready to try to hold on as much as possible to continue fighting with the best climbers. These are his words to our microphones a few minutes before departure: “I’m really happy with how this week has gone so far and I’m excited for today. Obviously I don’t know how it will go, the stage is different from yesterday and much harder, but I have already had many surprises, so I’m curious to see how my legs will react.”

After the excellent 2023 Giro d’Italia, the Canadian is carving out a new exceptional showcase for himself: “I knew I was fine after the training period I did, but obviously I didn’t have expectations of this level. I’m really very surprised – comments Gee – When I looked at the images yesterday it was great to see myself competing with such important runners, but at the time I was too busy suffering to realize it. I really hope that in this stage too my legs will go like the other days.”
