Nine gyms and arenas, 42 teams, 21 men’s and 21 women’s, over a thousand very young athletes, six days of events, over 52 matches. These are just some of the numbers of the AeQuilibrium Cup – Trofeo delle Regioni, the most important Italian youth volleyball competition, organized in the area by the FIPAV (Italian Volleyball Federation) with the support of its territorial committees and the municipal administration, presented yesterday, during a meeting in the Hall of Mirrors of the Ducal Castle.
Present were Felice Vecchione, national councilor of FIPAV, Antonello Cosentino, councilor of the regional committee of Fipav, Marco Mari, president of the territorial committee of FIPAV and the councilor for Tourism Costantino Argentino. In the room some representatives of the teams that will participate in the tournament, the presidents of Corigliano Volley, Gennaro Cilento – and the co-president, Natale Gallo – and of Pallavolo Rossano, Gerardo Russo, Antonello Cetera for the Polisportiva Murialdina and Massimo Fino for the Sporting Club Volleyball represents one of the internationally recognized excellences in Corigliano-Rossano, thanks to names such as Daniele Lavia and Gabriele Laurenzano. «I am in Corigliano Rossano to promote and represent what will be one of our biggest events at a youth level, the so-called regional trophy which will see the 21 regions of Italy on the pitch with their 21 male and female representatives, it is a tournament Under 16 for the men, under 15 for the women – declared Vecchione – the teams will compete in the last week of June on these beautiful pitches that we managed to find and make available in the city thanks to the work of all the clubs, the territorial committees and regional committee of Calabria”. The event is reserved for Under 16 athletes (Under 15 female, Under 16 male) and consists of 2 tournaments: Indoor Female and Male. Each Tournament is played by 21 teams, each representing their own Region. The Trophy aims to develop, promote and qualify the practice of youth volleyball throughout the national territory. Organized since 1982, until 1987 reserved only for men’s teams, the event represents the culmination of the activity of all the regional teams. The event will take place in Corigliano-Rossano from 23 to 28 June.
