Visma | Lease a Bike, Sepp Kuss: “My best chance of winning the Tour de France is for Jonas Vingegaard to be there”

Sepp Kuss open to any possibility for the Tour de France 2024. Normally, the US climber should be the most important wingman of Jonas Vingegaard at the next Grande Boucle, as it has often been in the past, but the uncertainty as to whether or not the Dane will be present at the start of the transalpine race (and, in case of participation, whether or not he will be in such a condition as to be able to fight for success final) opens up other scenarios for the 29-year-old, who in the end could find himself as the man in the rankings Visma | Lease a Bike for the Tour. In any case, whatever his role, the winner of the 2023 Vuelta a España hopes that his teammate will be able to present himself at the start from Florence on 29 June.

My best chance of winning the Tour de France is with Jonas Vingegaard – the words of Kuss a Veil – I think Jonas is irreplaceable, especially on the Tour. I hope he runs. In case you don’t compete, we still have a team ready. I think it will be hard for all of us because there won’t be a clear objective, as happens when Jonas is there.”

Vingegaard’s presence could also open up a tactical scenario similar to that seen at last year’s Vuelta: “I wouldn’t have won the Vuelta if we hadn’t made a tactical move to help Jonas and Primož (Roglic, ed.), going on the run, because that was the function of that run.”

The American, therefore, does not hold back regarding the possibility of fighting for the Yellow Jersey himself: “The opportunity is there. If I’m honest, if I wanted to win the Tour, my chances are better with Jonas on the team than without“, reiterated the class of 1994.

In any case, if the Dane were not to be present at the Grande Boucle, Kuss is open to any scenario: “You can aim for the general classification, you can aim for the stages. I think it’s a matter of calibrating goals based on how we feel. This is motivating for us and for the whole group.”
