THE RED CHECKS OUT IN MONTECARLO! Leclerc dominates the Monaco GP, Sainz also on the podium!

Charles Leclerc completes the work and this time, on the third attempt, he manages to defend the pole position on the streets of his Montecarlo, imposing himself in the Monaco Grand Prix 2024, eighth round of the Formula One World Championship of the season. Sixth career success for the Monegasque from Ferrari, who returns to winning after almost two years of starvation (Austrian GP 2022), finally dispelling the taboo of his home GP, in which due to various vicissitudes he had never reached the podium.

The Scuderia di Maranello thus obtains its second success of the year after the sensational double in Melbourne, reaching 10 first places in the Principality event (the last triumph dates back to 2017 with Sebastian Vettel, the only other seal of the 21st century was by Michael Schumacher in 2001). Race dominated without too many worries for Leclerc, who preceded the Australian’s McLaren to the finish line Oscar Piastri and the other Red of the Spaniard Carlos Sainz.

The Madrid native took a big risk by getting a puncture at the start after a contact with Piastri and stopping on the side of the track, but in fact the start was neutralized and repeated due to a red flag caused by the bad accident between the Red Bull of Sergio Perez and the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. Suspension which reset the strategies, given that the drivers were able to carry out the mandatory tire change at that moment without having to stop in the pits during the following 77 laps of the race.

After the restart, without any unexpected events, there were no particular emotions with the positions in the points remaining frozen until the checkered flag. Fourth place for the McLaren of the British Lando Norris ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Red Bull of the Dutch Max Verstappen, stuck in sixth position immediately ahead of the seven-time Mercedes world champion Lewis Hamilton.

In the general classification Verstappen remains leader but sees Leclerc approaching at -31, Norris at -52 and Sainz at -61, while Perez sinks to fifth position at -52. As regards the constructors’ ranking, Red Bull maintains the leadership with a margin of only 24 points over Ferrari and 88 over McLaren.
