Jannik Sinner is preparing to make his debut at Roland Garros, the second Slam of the season which will be staged on the red clay of Paris from 26 May to 9 June. The Italian tennis player will thus return to the court after a series of hip problems had prevented him from participating in the Italian internationals. The South Tyrolean champion will make his debut against the American Christopher Eubanks and hopes to make his way into the event on the crushed brick of the French capital, at the end of which he could also become the new world number 1.

Jannik Sinner presented himself with a certain optimism at the press conference the day before: “The hip doesn’t worry me. The latest tests were positive. I told myself that I would only play under these conditions. It’s not the Slam preparation I’m used to, I hope the first round can help me recover my rhythm, but the mental aspect will be even more important: accepting what may happen on the court“.

The current number 2 in the ATP rankingsin full swing to snatch the scepter of number 1 from Novak Djokovic, he doesn’t want to think about the rankings: “I’m here because it’s an important tournament, because I’m trying to learn year after year how to play better on clay. Then it could also be important because there will be the Olympics on clay. However, it is a Slam and I want to be part of it if my body allows me“.

The blue then underlined that “the results of the latest tests were very positive” And he concluded: “We are working hard to get back into condition. I did long days of training and I realized that the hip is holding up. The condition is not 100% but we can’t do magic. I’ve played points in the last three days, I’m confident: I’ll get better and better. But even at the level of condition I have now, I know I can play good tennis“.
