Matteo Berrettini, disturbing revelation: what happened really hurts

A heavy and worrying revelation about Matteo Berrettini and what happened to him: the latest on the Roman tennis player

Before Jannik Sinner’s permanent arrival at the top of world tennis, it was above all Matteo Berrettini to hold the Italian flag high. For about three years, the Roman was in the ATP top ten, collecting important results, but now, unfortunately, he is struggling to find himself.

A long negative period that began already in 2022, even if in that season, between ups and downs, some satisfaction had arrived. 2023, however, should be totally forgotten, marked by injuries of all sorts and almost absent results on the pitch. A year ended with a very long stop, from which Matteo re-emerged only a couple of months ago.

Thanks to his return to the field and the good results obtained in Phoenix and Marrakech, Berrettini has at least succeeded to return to the top 100, but is once again struggling to find continuity on the pitch. He hasn’t played for more than a month, since his appearance in Monte Carlo, which ended with elimination in the first round.

To penalize him, this time, a bad tonsillitis, which prevented him from training for several days. Because of this, he chose to withdraw from the Rome Internationals, to avoid risking new injuries. The hope is that the work these days allow him to be there at Roland Garros and finally try to perform at high levels again, something he hasn’t been able to do for a while.

Matteo Berrettini, the mental coach goes on the attack: “They told him horrendous things”

A truly difficult period on and off the pitch for Berrettini, who also saw himself targeted several times for his attitude. During the love story with Melissa Satta, accused of having neglected his career too much.

The criticisms have often resulted in over the top attacks. And that’s what says Stefano Massarihis mental coach, who speaks in his defense, criticizing the way the player was treated.

In an interview with ‘Fanpage’, he explained: “The injuries in his case had a huge impact, but I am convinced that if he is well he can return to very high levels. However, he showed great willpower and desire to get back up. He also had to deal with it to the savage criticism he received, it’s a different world from that of 20-30 years ago, there is unimaginable pressure and it’s not easy to manage. The horrible things they wrote to him they are an insult to the human racewe’re talking about someone who played in the Wimbledon final.”
