Diego Schwartzman criticizes the ATP in a social post for its decision to reduce and not promote tournaments in Latin America. We remind you that with the new 2025 calendar the tournaments organized between Argentina, Brazil and Chile go from 4 to 3, and the one in Buenos Aires saw the strong request to move to the 500 category from 250 denied. A depreciation in terms of investments and image that it clashes with the excellent moment of Latin tennis, as Diego writes well in his post, taking inspiration from the great exploits of the Chileans in Rome, Tabilo and Jarry in the semifinals.

“2 Chileans in the semi-finals of Rome. 6 Latins among the best 30 in the world… and next year the ATP will remove a tournament from the South American tour and decide not to give the ATP500 category to Buenos Aires. We Latin players will certainly continue to show the world who we are on the pitch.”

An objectively legitimate request, given the great growth of the tennis movement in Latin America. Thanks to the launch a couple of seasons ago of the large and interesting Challenger tour, with over 30 dates on the continent, the average level of the players has significantly increased, reinvigorating the passion of the fans. Chilean tennis is living a dream this week, but there’s much more. Baez, Etcheverry and other Latins have been performing well for months and months, with the potential explosion at the highest level of Fonseca, a Brazilian considered by many to be the next champion. A reflection on the part of the tour’s governing bodies would be correct, Latin America certainly deserves more attention than it will be given in the future.
