Staggering figures

The auction house ‘Christie’s’ has put several up for auction this week clocks – eight in total – of absolute value that were owned by Michael Schumacher. According to what was reported by Bild the auction initially scheduled for Monday was postponed to the following day due to a hacker attack, but the following day everything was able to take place as normal.

The header Auto Motor und Sport wrote that the wrist chronograph that recorded the highest price was the ‘Vagabondage 1 Model’ by FP Journe of 18 carats which was sold for the sum of 1.5 million euros. This watch was given as a gift by Jean Todt to Michael Schumacher at Christmas 2004 as can be seen from the engraving on the back and on the dial it has the seven world titles, the Ferrari coat of arms and Schumacher’s helmet.

This watch is the ‘evolution’ of the 2003 Christmas gift to Schumacher also from Jean Todt, which was practically identical with the only difference that the world titles were ‘only’ six, still a record absolute in that historical moment given that Schumacher had surpassed Juan Manuel Fangio with that statement. This watch, an Audemars Piguet ‘Royal Oak’, was ‘sold’ at 425 thousand euros. The Schumacher family also auctioned a rare collection of five other watches from the FP Journe manufacturer. The pieces of ‘Ruthenium Collection’ they all have consecutive serial numbers and are housed together in an elegant case, but were auctioned individually. However, a single buyer secured the entire collection for 1.7 million euros.

The auction also included the ‘fight’ for two Rolex. The first was a ‘Paul Newman Daytona REF. 6262’, one of the best-known models of the Swiss brand. However, this particular version of the Rolex Schumacher is very rare because it was only produced for a short time between 1970 and 1972. It found a new owner for 322,560 euros. The second Rolex is also a Daytonabut in the version REF. 6241. 6241. The 14K gold model was apparently worn by his wife Corinna Schumacher. According to the auction description, his signature can be found in the 2021 purchase contract. In the end, it was sold for 280,000 euros.
