Rugby Mammut Montevarchi, a story of passion for the oval ball

Rugby Mammut Montevarchi, a story of passion for the oval ball told by Gabriele Rosadini, passionate about the discipline, former player and now responsible for the project which involves dozens of children and families from Valdarno.
“Our story began more than 20 years ago right in Montevarchi, thanks to a group of boys passionate about rugby who brought the sport to the few spaces available in the valley and then continued the journey as players elsewhere. Immediately after the pandemic, the new adventure began with some young athletes in an almost casual way, but with a great desire, after the forced stop of Covid, to have fun by starting to do physical activity together again. And the enthusiasm has been growing and has led us to have almost 100 kids today, less than three years later.”

There are two training fields in Montevarchi, the former Gil for children up to 10 years old and the Pestello Verde for rugby players up to 18 years old. “During the season – he continues – we participate with our teams in matches and tournaments with the little ones from 4 years old to 12 years old. From the under14, under16 and under18 junior categories we collaborate with other companies”.
Competitive practice and more, because the project leaders have promoted a series of meetings with students from local schools to spread and transmit the values of team sport.

As for the name, Rosadini recalls that the choice fell on the mammoth, “a powerful animal and symbol of a past that embraces the entire valley as evidenced by many fossil finds kept in the Paleontological Museum of Montevarchi. We welcome with great enthusiasm into our black-green family the new children who want to come to Montevarchi to discover this beautiful sport – he concluded – completely free of charge for this season finale”.
