Giro d’Italia 2024, is Antonio Tiberi the man who can make Italy dream?

The first block of stages of the Giro d’Italia 2024 and today comes the first day of rest. A Corsa Rosa that already seems sealed as regards the final victory, with the total dominance imposed by Tadej Pogacar who could now also decide to manage himself in view of the Tour de France.

An overall positive first week also for the Italians. The most awaited it was Antonio Tiberi and Tiberi is being ready. The rider from Lazio, after some bad luck in Oropa due to the mechanical accident that made him lose time, confirmed all the good things he had shown at the Tour of the Alps and at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, arriving among the best both in the Perugia time trial and in the Prati di Tivo stage. He is now sixth ahead of Lorenzo Fortunato (another happy note) just over a minute from the podium which seems within reach.

Only one stage success has been achieved and that is Jonathan Milan. The Friulian achieved the second success of his career at the Giro d’Italia in Andora and then placed second a couple of times in Fossano and Naples. As we saw last year, this rider’s potential is truly remarkable and his goal is to be able to maximize the great work done by his team more often. Often the times with which he launches the sprint are not perfect, sometimes too long, sometimes too short.

There is still plenty of room for other Italians like Filippo Ganna who only bowed to Tadej Pogacar in the Perugia time trial and will try again in Desenzano del Garda, the same goes for Alberto Dainese in the sprint and for Davide Piganzoli and Giulio Pellizzari in the uphill stages, as well as for Filippo Zana. Undoubtedly the “one” box must go up under the heading of fractions won, but the Italians have everything it takes to become protagonists again.
