Alexander Zverev put an end to Luciano Darderi’s path to the 2024 Internazionali d’Italia. A match in which the Italian tennis player managed to equalize at least one set with the world number five, then falling in the second, but still having the opportunity of the counterbreak to get back into the running. In any case, a very good performance by Darderi, as Zverev himself recognized.
In fact, the Hamburg native had decidedly sweet words for his opponent, really appreciating his characteristics and also launching into an important comparison: “The guy serves at 225 km/h and hits the forehand with the same force as Berrettini, so he reminded me a bit of him. He is young, he is on the rise”.
Zverev then also expressed an opinion on the Italian movement in generalwith many Italian tennis players present in the Top-100 and who are competitive: “I don’t know what Italians eat, but it seems like there are a lot of young people and a lot of great players, Darderi is definitely one of them.”
About the match: “I think the match went pretty well. I think I moved pretty well on the pitch. I made perhaps a little more mistakes than I would have liked, but this is part of tennis and I’m happy with the victory.”.
