The rumor has been spreading for days now, in the morning lots of confirmations arrived, now it’s official, or almost. There will be no climb to the Stelvio Pass at Giro d’Italia 2024.

The climb that was initially set to be canceled was therefore cancelled Cima Coppi. The route of the sixteenth stage will change, starting from Livigno and arriving in Santa Cristina Val Gardena.

The words of the competent councilor of the Province of Bolzano to ANSA Daniel Alfreider: “The Stelvio Pass cannot be opened for the stage of the Giro d’Italia on 21 May, because the Road Service is currently unable to continue the clearing work due to the risk of avalanches. This means that the road has not yet been cleared of large amounts of snow. After the snow has been cleared, the road must still be made safe against falling rocks and avalanches before being reopened.”

The decision on changing the route will arrive in the next few days, in the meantime the first nice comment on X is that of Romain Bardet: “I want to cry.”
