An unforgettable Wednesday evening for the women’s Serie D. Pam Albisola Volleyball beat Genova Volley 3 to 0 in injury time and won the playoffs. Next year it will be Serie C. A notable success because it was achieved by a team with an average age of 16. A growing path that has seen the team coached by Luca Parodi experience a painful but successful regular season. In fact, the six matches won on tie-breaks stand out. During the final phase, the team took off, winning all the direct matches and gaining access to the next phase with a round to spare.
Thus coach Luca Parodi: “In August there was no such hope. We started by working throughout the youth sector with this system. A strategy that has brought benefits to this group which is the ‘first youth team’. We had about 25 people play and they all contributed. We won a set by playing the Second Division setter who I had called at the last minute due to an illness with our player. In fact, this was the most difficult season, but we have a group that never gave up.”
“Am I surprised by this result? Absolutely yes. We played two extraordinary matches against Spezia. We played these playoffs with a team with an average age of 16 but with a maturity built training after training. The team we have set up has always been united within precise rules. Thanks also to all the youth staff and the club. All together we built a season with a capital C.”
“In the stands there were five girls from the last promotion from D to C. I was very pleased to see them, people very attached to the club and to me even though twelve years have passed”. Finally, a special dedication: “To Elena, who is a warrior. We are all with her.”
