The amateur sports association Pallavolo C9 invites everyone, on Friday 10 May, to an evening of assessment and reflection on the «She Leads: gender equity in sport» project.

The project, carried out in collaboration with Dr. Alessia Tuselli, sociologist at the University of Trento, has promoted, starting last November, gender equity within the company, the largest in Trentino in terms of volleyball and among the very few to have two training groups, one for men and one for women, from under 12 to under 19. This also happens in the category championships: Volleyball C9 in fact fields the first and third women’s divisions, two series D men’s as well as the women’s C series and the men’s C series. Ten women’s and nine men’s teams for a total of more than 200 athletes, which exceed 400 if minivolley is also considered.

Precisely from this peculiarity was born the idea of exploring the themes of respect and gender equality, in mixed groups and in a positive situation such as being in the gym. This starts from the awareness that violence against women is a failure of the whole society, for which the company’s management asked itself what it could do to make a contribution to that cultural change which appears increasingly necessary to stem a dramatic phenomenon .

The company relied on Dr. Alessia Tuselli, sociologist, researcher at the University of Trento and former volleyball player, with whom the registration of the initiative within the broader «She leads» project was formalised. promoted by the Center for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies of the University of Trento and coordinated by Tuselli herself. Focus: female leadership within sport, starting from key concepts such as body shaming, gender equity and the fight against discriminatory practices against women.

On the final evening of the project, Friday 10 May in Riva del Garda at the Scipio Sighele auditorium starting at 6.30 pm, the results obtained will be shared, the feedback collected from the athletes involved in the project and the future prospects for continuing to promote an inclusive and respectful of diversity. The evening will be enriched by the presence of special guests and industry professionals, ready to share their experiences and offer food for thought on the topic covered. The event is open to all people sensitive to the topic, not necessarily from the world of sport and volleyball.
