El Diablo is in ‘experimental’ version
Usually the ‘Bugatti’ of Le Mans was a conquering ground for the Yamaha, but now the technical crisis highlighted in recent seasons by the Iwata house prevents Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins from harboring dreams of glory in view of the next race weekend. In Jerez, Rins finished 13th and Quartararo 15th, with Joan Mir winning the ‘Japan Cup’ with Honda, finishing in twelfth position. The Monday following the weekend in Andalusia there was a day of collective testing, while Yamaha will instead carry out a private one at Mugello after the Le Mans weekend.
Fabio Quartararo he made no secret that that test is more important for Yamaha than the weekend now upon us which is also the home race for the 2021 world champion: “Although the Mugello test after the French GP will perhaps be more significant for the team, this appointment is very special for me. This weekend we will take inspiration from the Jerez tests to see how we feel on this track. I’m curious to see how the data compares. Let’s hope we can have a good weekend and get some good results.”
“Last week’s Jerez tests were positive and interesting for us – added Alex Rins – at Le Mans we won’t use the new aerodynamic package yet, but this weekend we will be able to work more on the electronics. We will check the results of the Jerez tests here at Le Mans and test them in the race. It is an important moment for the future of Yamaha and we will work to prepare for the private test at Mugello which will be held immediately after this GP.”
