The Giro d’Italia starts and two cyclists from Valtellina are also dreaming

Today is the big day, the Giro d’Italia starts from Venaria Reale, near Turin and, among the most excited cyclists there will certainly be two young people from Valtellina, making their debut in the pink race.

The more experienced of the two, who moved to Lidl-Trek this season and will race with the number 112, is Andrea Bagioli: the malenco will thus complete the trio of the most important stage races in the world, after also taking part in the Tour de France and Vuelta de España. Bagioli himself has also defended the colors of Italy in more than one edition of the World Cup and can already boast some prestigious successes in his career.

Davide Piganzoli from Morbegna showed the world his talent in 2024 at the Tour of Antalya and is now ready for the squad’s final exam. He will race his first Giro d’Italia with Polti-Kometa and will have the number 168.

The dream

Both Bagioli and Piganzoli can be counted among the “stage hunters”, that is, those who will try to find the escape or the right shot in at least one of the hamlets. The dream, for both, is to cross the finish line of Manerba del Garda-Livigno with arms raised, one of the “queen” stages of this Giro d’Italia, scheduled for May 19th. But above all, for both of them, the “home” stage.
