Enea Bastianini reflects on the reasons why MotoGP bikes are faster than ever

The MotoGP season has seen new track records at the circuits visited so far, with the Portuguese GP being the only exception. The bikes are clearly more competitive, an issue addressed by Enea Bastianini (Ducati).

When asked the reason for this improvement, the Italian Ducati rider said in the press conference that there are several possible factors, but the tires are an important aspect:

I think speed also depends on many things. I think the tires have improved a lot during this year, but also the high level of MotoGP is getting better and better every year. We saw especially during the Sprint race a very good speed, but I think with the new generation of tires you can put a lot of energy on the front. Our problem now is a bit of vibration at the rear, it may depend on the grip.

Faster bikes can mean greater safety concerns, particularly on circuits with little run-off space. Regarding the issue of safety, Bastianini commented: ‘We talked a lot about safety and I think that in all the GPs we try to improve and have a good relationship with safety to have the possibility of being safer in the future‘.
