Italy wants to be a great protagonist at the World Relays, the World Relay Championships which will be staged in Nassau (Bahamas) on the weekend of May 4-5. Our national team will hunt for the pass to the Paris 2024 Olympics with the five teams: for each specialty, 14 passes will be up for grabs out of the total 16 available (the last two will be determined by ranking).
DT Antonio La Torre presented the event through federal channels: “It is a decisive step in the season leading to the Olympics: considering the number of athletes involved, the impact on the composition of our Olympic team is also clear. All things considered, here in Nassau there could be up to 30 calls for the five-circle review”.
The Professor also focused on Marcell Jacobs’ great return to blue: “Marcell’s return to the national team was one of the best moments of the team’s preparation period in Miami. Essentially, it’s as if he never left. The extraordinary climate that in recent years has produced the results we know, the Olympic title in Tokyo, but also the beautiful world silver in Budapest last year, was immediately recomposed. And in this group, in addition to Jacobs, I like to underline how the young people immediately integrated: it is a sign of the fact that, despite continuity, it is possible to produce significant changes”.
The technician then returned to the Nassau event: “Nobody will give us anything, the results will have to be achieved on the pitch. Rather, there is something to be said about the regulations that will define the starting grid, especially in the 4×100. The boys have the second half of the year, and instead a convoluted mechanism will be taken into consideration, which counts not only the times of the relays, but also the individual ones… I don’t know where we want to go but with these very complicated mechanisms we could find ourselves with companies unexpected battery problems…”.
A passage also on the enormous 22.88 meter trip signed by Leonardo Fabbri two days ago in Modena: “It was a sensational launch, indeed, into hyperspace, that of Fabbri. With Weir’s excellent 21.93, compliments must be given to coach Paolo Dal Soglio for his excellent work. But Yeman Crippa also deserves mention, as he set the Italian 10km road record at 27:08, missing the European record by just one second. Federica Del Buono and Nadia Battocletti also did well. The effervescence of Italian athletics is confirmed: it is a satisfying fact, but we must remain focused on the objective”.
