CHANNEL 11 – Tiago Pintoformer general manager of Romegave an interview to the Portuguese television station and returned to talk about his adventure in the Capitoline club, his relationship with José Mourinho, of the Renato operation Sanches and not only. Here are his statements.
Your relationship with Mourinho?
“I am always grateful for the opportunities given to me in life, I take them to learn and grow. At Roma I worked for three years with Paulo Fonseca and José Mourinho and it was an opportunity for growth, personal and professional development. I am It’s been a very challenging three years for me, but I’ve grown a lot. I’ve definitely made a lot of mistakes, but at the same time I’ve made a lot of good choices. At 39, I’ve already had the opportunity to work with great coaches like Bruno Lage, Rui Vitória and Jorge. Jesus. I learned something from all of them and they made me grow. Am I hurt by Mourinho’s criticisms? For me, life passes quickly and I have to think about myself, no one will ever change that.”
Farewell to Rome?
“If you look at the last 15 or 20 years only one sporting director has stayed longer than me. Roma is a demanding club, which does not favor the stability of managers and coaches. I’m very grateful for the opportunity I had, I think we did a good job, but I knew my future would be in other clubs and leagues. I felt really exhausted, Roma needed someone with the same energy and motivation I had when I arrived. I felt it was time to leave.”
The Renato Sanches operation?
“In the next stage of his career he will have to look for affection. When someone has those physical problems he loses confidence in himself, but he has a lot of quality. He has to find the right project and the right people, he has a lot to give to football. I received a lot of criticism for signing him from Roma: things didn’t go well, but my affection and my expectations of him remain high.”
You were very close to buying Marcos Leonardo.
“We were very close to signing Marcos Leonardo, but Santos had corporate problems, changed sporting director and coach and started to realize that they could be relegated to Serie B. I like Marcos Leonardo a lot, he is a player with great ability to score and he is very good technically. Two very important characteristics, that is, he scores consistently and he also does it in big matches and in decisive moments of matches. He also takes penalties in the last minute and when you do it at 17 or 18 it’s because you have enormous courage.”
