Cycling takes Gussola. Youth cycling, with two days of races that will take place on May 4th and 5th, bringing at least 600 athletes from all over Lombardy. Last year it went well, this year it could go even better given the will put in place by the municipal administration and Giocainbici Oglio Po.
“The idea was to double the efforts – he explains Maurizio Vezzosi of Giocainbici – given the remarkable outcome of the first challenge, last year. We will have a total of around 600 athletes for the youth sector of cycling, therefore for the Beginners and Students categories. The first challenge, on Saturday, will be a time trial that we have called “On the streets of the Wind”. The second will be the “Strade Bianche” cup, like last year, with a dedication to Ermete Schiaffinito whom the Memorial is named”.
“The Federation has allowed us to assign, in the time trial, points for the regional ranking (with the Lombard champion’s jersey presented for the occasion, ed.) in the Cadets and Students categories, therefore the race acquires considerable interest and appeal for athletes from all over the world. the region – specifies Vezzosi -. For our part, we have once again focused on territoriality. Thanks to the municipality of Gussola and the administration (present Stefano Belli Franzini as mayor and then the councillors Anna Caterina Quarenghi And Lara Carbonied.) is linked to the great enthusiasm with which he not only accepted the challenge, but made the municipal machinery available to design the route and make the competition possible, knowing full well that such a race requires modifications to be made and in some cases points if traffic is diverted”.
A detail, the latter, also highlighted by the regional president of the Italian Cycling Federation Stefano Pedrinazzi. “When events of this kind are organised, the support of the administrations becomes indispensable, precisely because we know that an entire country focuses on the sporting event. For this reason it is right to thank and exploit this beautiful initiative together.”
Stefano Belli Franzini, mayor of Gussola, instead highlighted the beauty and freshness of youth sport. “As an administration we have done a lot for sport and when each discipline is expressed by its youngest interpreters, we are more than happy to support it. Last year we had a great response with a sort of zero number, now the number of participants seems to be able to grow, creating a significant impact also taking into account the arrival of parents, carers and managers of each team”.
