The five-time world champion spoke in two podcasts talking about personal things: the relationship with Chicho, Rossi’s return to Yamaha, the last race in Jerez

May 2, 2024

JLorenzo orgies spoke on Jordi Wild’s podcast. It was a rather long chat, three hours, of which we report some interesting excerpts. We also report some words said by Jorge in his Yt channel, “Life is hard”.

On the difficult relationship with his father Chicho Lorenzo

“It is mine lack of affection? – said Lorenzo -. Could be. At this moment I tell my father that we must not talk about business or career, I tell him ‘treat me like a son and I will treat you like a father'”.

On their relationships when he was young: “He was a Hitlerian, a total Hitlerite. He still is today that he is 64 years old, he will not change. We’ve already had two or three periods where we haven’t spoken to each other. The last one dates back to a few months ago: we stayed two or three years without speaking”.

Up again Chicho: “His passion continues to be motorbikes. He is still a children’s teacher, I was his first student, now he trains 60-year-old men and one-year-olds.”

Jorge added about his father: “He never took holidays, just think about motorbikes, motorbikes, motorbikeshe just asks me about the races, the bikes… you ask me about life, girls, about holidays…”.

On the separation of parents: “When I was 10 years old my father and mother separated, I don’t know why it happened. The judges gave me and my sister, who was 5 years younger, the chance to choose whether to go with my father or my mother. My sister went with my mother. ‘What do I do now?’ I thought, ‘if I go with my mother I will have more affection but if I go with my father I can become world champion’. So I chose to try to be world champion. It was a vital decision, it was my first important decision.”

On Valentino Rossi and his return to Yamaha

Swe are in 2010: “When Rossi left Yamaha for Ducati he left out of jealousy, because in 2010 I won my first world championship, and out of jealousy he said to Yamaha, ‘it’s either Lorenzo or me’. Yamaha replied: ‘we want you to stay, but if you force us to choose, you will have to leave.’ Out of pride he went to Ducati, he had two terrible seasons and we got along better there.”

Rossi then returned to Yamaha in 2013: “After two terrible seasons with a bike on which he never adapted”. For Lorenzo Rossi “he returned to Yamaha with the tail between legsearning much less, publicly accepting that he was the second pilotthat Lorenzo was the two-time world champion and that he was coming to learn from me…”.

But within two-three years things are back again change: “It has become harder and took the team controland now we were 50-50. There we started to hate each other again. Now that we’re retired she called me to her ranch… it’s much better.”

On Marc Marquez

Lorenzo spoke about the Jerez GP and the Bagnaia-Marquez challenge on his Yt channel: “Pecco was at 95%, but when Marc arrived and passed him he took it that 5% that he missed. Furthermore he clarified that the GP24 it went in a straight line, I think it is superior in terms of acceleration and speed. What I saw is that Marc, to keep up with Bagnaia’s pace, had to apply lots of braking force. Where you go compensate there what Pecco had gained in acceleration. Marquez would have won 100% with the 2024, we’ll see when he has a bike like Pecco and Martín. For me, Marc’s crash on Saturday was an episode, given the track conditions, and Bagnaia’s crash was not his fault.”

Lorenzo then indicated his favorites for the Le Mans GP: “Bagnaia, Martín, Acosta. It is a circuit that greatly favors Ducati, but it is true that Marquez must always be considered. It will depend a lot on the weather, whether it will rain.”
