New adventure
David Sanchez has found a new home. The former Ferrari engineer – among the first purged by the Vasseur management – has in fact signed a contract with the Alpine team after his very brief parenthesis in McLaren. The Spaniard was already expected to join the ranks of the transalpine team for a few weeks and will occupy the role of executive technical director. He will therefore have – as confirmed by the official Alpine press release – general responsibility for the performance, engineering and aerodynamics areas.
The immediate separation from the McLaren team, favored by team principal Andrea Stella, will allow Sanchez to start his new adventure immediately. The statement released by Alpine specified that the position that the Spaniard will assume has been “newly created”. Sanchez, who left McLaren due to the lack of a suitable role for his career, will manage the three key areas that characterize the team’s new technical structure. Ciaron Pilbeam (Technical Director – Performance), Joe Burnell (Technical Director – Engineering) and David Wheater (Technical Director – Aerodynamics) will report to him.
