Jannik gets 200 points from the Serbian, but the summit is postponed. Alcaraz, now the no. 3 is at risk

Jannik Sinner nibbles 200 points away from Novak Djokovic but his hopes of becoming world no. 1 already in Rome have vanished. It’s only a matter of time, he knows it and his opponents know it, and in all likelihood the world throne will arrive at Roland Garros, at the latest at Wimbledon. Sinner leaves Madrid, where he withdrew due to the hip ailment that has been tormenting him for a while after reaching the quarter-finals, with 8860 points, and will show up in Rome with 8770 points, with the 90 points obtained in the 2023 already discarded. Novak Djokovic, however, will be at the Forum with a haul of 9810 points, with the 180 discarded for 2023. Therefore, even if Nole did not score any points and Jannik won the tournament, the Serbian could still not be reached: Sinner, in fact, at maximum he could reach 9770 points, just a breath away from Djokovic, but still behind.

STACCATO ALCARAZ

In Paris, therefore, the Serbian will be seeded No. 1, Jannik will be seeded No. 2, with a possible great challenge that could only take place in the final. With the quarter-finals reached in Madrid and with the simultaneous defeat of Alcaraz, who was defending the title, Jannik Sinner has widened the gap with the Spaniard and is increasingly number two in the world, with a gap that is now important and cannot be bridged before Paris : the blue, as mentioned, is at 8860, the former world no.1 at 7345, therefore the difference in the live ranking is 1515 points, too much to be made up in Rome even counting the discarded points. Be careful though, because unexpectedly Daniil Medvedev doesn’t let go from behind, who in case of victory on Thursday in the fourth against Jiri Lehecka would overtake Alcaraz to become number 3 in the world. By winning Madrid, the Russian would reach 7995, but then he would have to discard the 1000 points in Rome, where at most he could confirm the score and, therefore, still remain behind both Djokovic and Sinner.
