Alex Rins is the new standard bearer of the Yamaha team. The Spanish centaur spent many years at Suzuki before being selected to replace Franco Morbidelli.
Alex Rins’ career, like many of his colleagues, began very early. At seven years old, on a KTM 50 motocross, he took part in the regional championship of Catalonia. At 8 years old he also began racing in Aragon, achieving success in the second race. In 2005 he moved to supermoto, participating in the 65 championship in Catalonia.
After experiencing challenges in the 50, 70 and 85 categories, Alex took part in the Catalan and Mediterranean 125 speed championship, standing out for his innate speed. After obtaining positive results in series in the preparatory categories for the MotoGP, the Spaniard made his debut in the MotoGP in Moto3, racing for the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team on a Suter MMX3. His teammate was current Aprilia rider, Miguel Oliveira.
His was a predestined debut in the MotoGP. In his first year he scored 141 points and placed fifth in the season. In 2013 there were 6 victories (Americas, Germany, Indianapolis, San Marino, Aragon and Australia), five second places (France, Italy, Catalonia, Great Britain and Malaysia), three third places (Qatar, the Netherlands, Valencian Community) and well eight pole positions (Americas, Spain, Germany, Indianapolis, Czech Republic, Aragon, Japan and Valencian Community). A title-worthy schedule, but he finished second behind Maverick Vinales.
The Spaniard’s leitmotif has always been this. He also lacked the winning streak in Moto2 and MotoGP. He ended his debut season in the middle class in second place in the standings with 234 points. In 2017 Suzuki sensed a deal and decided to team him up with Andrea Iannone.
He suffered the first serious injury of his career and was forced to skip several stages. His big chance came in 2020 when in a crazy championship, due to Marc Marquez’s injury and a reduced calendar due to the pandemic, his teammate Joan Mir won the title.
The terrible injury of the Yamaha centaur
After coming close to the World Cup in 2020, Alex Rins suffered a terrifying injury in 2023. The move to the Honda LCR team represented joy and pain. At Mugello he was transported by helicopter to the Careggi hospital in Florence at the end of the Mugello SR, where he suffered a fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg. He missed practically the entire last championship. In any case, the victory obtained in Texas, unique for the Tokyo brand, gave him the chance to secure a good contract with the Yamaha factory team.

Alex Rins is among the tallest riders on the grid. His measurements are as follows: 176 cm and 68 kg in weight. Alongside Fabio Quartararo he has not yet found any significant results in 2024.

The Spaniard celebrated his wedding with his bride Alexandra Urbi in Ibiza. The two already have a son, little Lucas. They are very close-knit and his wife often accompanies him in the MotoGP paddock.
