When results don’t arrive, it’s always very difficult to maintain the right calm and clarity to be able to achieve great results over the course of the year, for an important team. There Honda unfortunately finds itself in the middle of a crisis from which it is really very difficult to escape, with the intent of the Tokyo company which is to focus on all categories of motorsport.
MotoGP in 2024 is giving even worse results than an already terrible 2023: without the excellent talent of Marc Marquez, there is no longer anyone capable of “hiding the dust under the sofa”. The results of Joan Mir and Luca Marini they are disappointing, with the Italian being the only one to finish outside the points in Austin.
However, it is not only in MotoGP that things are going badly, in fact, the Honda riders are far from competing for the top positions even in Superbike. Lecuona and Vierge in fact they are always well distanced from the leaders of the class and, also in this category, the Honda clearly proves to be the last of the five bikes present.
Where there would be a way to fight for the world title is in the motocross category. Even in this case, a lot depends on the fact that the Honda he has an extraordinary phenomenon like the Slovenian under contract Tim Gajserbut it’s not enough and above all even in this competition the Tokyo company has made a crazy decision regarding the drivers.
Goodbye to Van de Mossdijk: Honda changes in MXGP
The season of Honda in 2024 in MXGP it started in the best possible way, considering the performance in other competitions, with Tim Gajser who demonstrated from the first test in Argentina that he was fighting with Jorge Prado for the world title. The problem, however, is that the Spanish of GasGas he seems to be flying and for the moment he is demonstrating that the success of 2023 has given him the right belief to dominate his rivals.
In Arco di Trento, we also saw the return of a large Kawasaki with Romain Febvre, while fortunately for Honda, at the moment the Yamaha is decimated by injuries, from Jago Geerts to Maxime Renaux. Honda has also had to deal with injuries, in fact since the beginning of the year they have not been able to count on the Spaniard Ruben Fernandez.
The Iberian had been the point man throughout 2023, given the absence of Gajser returned only at the end of the year. However, the Honda team could not contest a second year with just one rider and for this reason the Dutchman made his debut in Sardinia Roan Van de Moosdijk. However, the results in the first two tests of Riola Sardo and Pietramurata were below expectations and Honda apparently has already decided to end the relationship.
