Marcello Ugazio breaks records on the Everest trails

Another great feat for the Galliate biker-runner Marcello Ugazio, this time on the ramps of the highest mountain in the world. Riding the mountain bike, Ugazio established the new Fkt-Fastest known time record on the distance Lukla-Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5364 metres, in Nepal. Marcello Ugazio pedaled for 10 hours and 16 minutes, completing 54.36 kilometers with a difference in altitude of 3976 metres, improving the performance of Canadian Cory Wallace, world champion of the 24 hour mountain bike, by over an hour.

The 28-year-old from Galliate is no stranger to extreme feats: he had already hit the headlines in July a year ago when he lowered the record for the race, by bike and on foot, from Genoa to Mont Blanc by almost two hours. Ugazio set off from Voltri on his time trial bike, reaching 4810 meters of the highest mountain in Western Europe, in 14 hours, 42 minutes and 14 seconds.

Last March, however, at the SkySnow World Championships, in Tarvisio, at the «Monte Lussari Vertical», the Galliate native of Sport Project Vco, wearing the Italian national team jersey, finished in fifth position. RL
