Third driver of the Scuderia Ferrari, official driver of the AF Corse team in the WEC world championship with the third Ferrari 499P together with Robet Kubica and Yifei Ye, and recently spent behind the wheel of a Formula E car with which he carried out a series of reserved test sessions to rookies. We are Robert Shwartzman, an Israeli-born driver, born in 1999, who during this season is certainly experiencing one of the most challenging years of his career. A career which, thanks to many years of experience and positive results in the various preparatory series where he competed (starting from German Formula 4 up to success in Formula 3 in 2020 and second place in Formula 2 in 2021), has led him to be, at 24 years of age, engaged in the two main categories of motorsport: F1 and World Endourance, with probably the most historic and iconic team in the history of motorsport.

A kind, multifaceted driver given the different experiences just mentioned (including adventures in the world of GT), truly polite, loved by the younger ones, calm but determined, well focused on his objectives and aware of his means, with which the writer has had the opportunity to speak exclusively for “Formula1.it”. In doing so, among the various topics covered and reported in the full interview, there was the opportunity to question the former Prema team driver about the differences, from the driver’s point of view, between the leading cars of motorsport: an F1 single-seater, a prototype of the Endourance World Championship and an FE car.

Differences which, first of all, are linked to the type of tracks on which the categories are staged, the duration of the races, the fact of having to share the car with other drivers or not and the tires used in the different championships. Differences that make up a nice mix for the drivers, but which in any case never take away the joy of getting behind the wheel and pushing hard for people who, in fact, have speed in their blood.

“It’s a nice mix for the driver and for me in this specific case. In general we can say that Formula E, obviously, is electric, has different tires compared to the other categories and I think it’s more suitable for street circuits. The Wec prototype it’s an Endourance car, with you always having to do consistent, solid laps and above all you have to share it with the other drivers in the crew. The Formula 1 single-seater on the other hand is the fastest type of car around, a car that provides you thrills and extraordinary times, but compared to the WEC it has shorter races. Personally I enjoy riding, that’s the important thing.”.
