Everyone in the field chasing an oval ball in memory of Ezio Vittorio, from Catania, first a player and then a rugby coach, died prematurely in 2021 at just 56 years old, leaving a great void for those who had been lucky enough to know and appreciate him human and technical skills with his big one passion for rugby. To remember him this year the Sicilian Federugby directed by Giovanni Saraceno established an Under 16 youth tournament, which featured the best three Sicilian teams: Cus Catania, San Gregorio and Fenice Marsala.
The conclusion to Multipurpose center of San Giovanni la Punta with the victory of San Gregorio coached by Salvo Garozzo who was linked to Ezio by a deep bond: “Il I kept the trophy at home for one day and now I will give it back to the guys who gave me this great gift with this victory in Ezio’s memory”.
“We decided to establish this trophy in memory of Ezio Vittorio – the words of Giovanni Saraceno, president of Federugby Sicilia – and we hope that over the years it will become a traditional youth rendezvousto remember first the man and then the great coach he was Ezio Vittorio. These three games they honored his memory in the best possible way and congratulations to everyone the kids who took to the field, the coaches, the parents and the spectators who followed the event in large numbers even today.”
The San Gregorio beat Cus Catania 29 to 5 and col bonuses won the 1st memorial “Ezio Vittorio” in front of the pillows and the Marsala by Moreno De Biasi who had beaten the Etna of Except Garozzo (32-24) but had lost 27-5 with i cusini by Mario Camorali.
At the delivery of the trophy present Riccardo Stazzone the last president of Ezio at the Catania Amatori in Serie A and many, many friends who remembered the figure of this extraordinary man who left us too soon.
“Congratulations to these guys – the words of Riccardo Stazzone – you have honored the memory of Ezioa man with a kind soul who then transformed and became on the pitch a warrior who dragged everyone along, because he had an innate rugby spirit. Remembering him today was important because Ezio gave so much to rugby and it is right that the rugby remember him”.
