MIRA – New cycling trip for Massimiliano Locanto who will reach Africa this year.

After having crossed the Philippines last year by cycling for almost a month, Locanto, who has always been passionate about eco-sustainable cycle tourism, resident in Mira and port operator at Versalis in Marghera, will leave on Thursday 2 May for a tour between Europe and Africa along a distance of 1,600 km and facing a difference in altitude, mainly desert dunes but not only, of 16 thousand metres.
«Since 1997, the desire to travel, to get to know new places, the habits and customs of the populations has pushed me to undertake wonderful journeys by bicycle – says Locanto. – My first trip was to France from Paris La Baule-Escoublac, among expanses of sunflowers as far as the eye can see.”
But over the years Locanto has visited, among other countries, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Vietnam, Laos, Australia, Burma, Cuba, Sri Lanka and last year the Philippines on his two-wheeler.

SOLO
Sometimes he travels alone, other times together with friends or colleagues who are passionate about eco-sustainable cycle tourism like him.
«This year from Europe I will arrive in Africa via ferry and then by bike and more precisely in Morocco together with Mirco Vivian from Tessera, a friend and expert traveler on two wheels – announces Locanto. – We are both members of Sbr3atlhon Running Team Mestre, a triathon team and members of Pavè-Pedalando in Venice and we understand and live cycling as ecology, a philosophy of life to observe the world through other eyes and other rhythms».

PLAN
«We will leave from Treviso airport – explains Locanto – with the bikes packed in a box up to Malaga. Once we have reassembled the bikes we will reach Tarifa in the Strait of Gibraltar and embark for Tangier. From there by bike we will reach cities and fascinating places between medinas and kasbahs until we reach the Sahara desert, reach the sand dunes up to 150 meters high and then reach Marrakech”.
The two-wheeled tour will end on May 17th.
«The beauty is not in reaching the destination but in the journey itself – concludes Locanto – only those who truly love this type of philosophy can understand and if you do it by bicycle it is an added value. You are the master of your time and you enter a town with humility, you cross it in absolute silence, you enter into a sort of balance with the surrounding environment and you establish sincere and unique relationships with the local people.”
