What future for Max
Yet another possible turning point in the telenovela Max Verstappen-Red Bull on the future of the three-time Dutch world champion – highly courted by Mercedes to become Lewis Hamilton’s replacement starting from the 2025 season – takes inspiration from Max’s father, Jos Verstappen. This is nothing new given that already in Bahrain, at the beginning of the season, it was the former Benetton, Tyrrell and Arrows driver who sparked a media uproar first by arguing with Horner and then by talking in plain sight with Toto Wolff in front of the Mercedes hospitality .

This time Jos was more ‘diplomatic’ in words, but still made it quite clear that the possibility of his son finding an alternative seat to that of Red Bull in the near future is on the table. In a video interview published on YouTube by the Dutch site Racexpress Jos Verstappen has in fact hinted that Max’s entourage is looking above all atintroduction of the new powerunits with a view to 2026. A substantial confirmation of what is said to be the concerns of the Verstappen clan regarding what will be the first power unit completely self-produced by Red Bull.

“I think everyone wants Max badly – declared father Jos – and I think Max is doing well at the moment. He has a fast car, but yes, we also have to look further ahead. We are also looking at 2026. We will wait, we will remain very calm and see what happens“. Not exactly words that lock down the son’s future. Jos Verstappen also spoke briefly about the future of Adrian Neweywithout however going into the merits of the possible transfer of the British designer to the court of Maranello: “These rumors are normal. I have nothing to say about it – concluded Verstappen senior – I know there is an agreement between him and Red Bull. We’ll see about the rest. We know the results he has achieved and how good he is“.
