YOUTH RUGBY. DBM SONDALO PROTAGONIST AT THE 14 CIME DI LECCO TROPHY

The entire minirugby sector took part in the 2nd edition of the tournament “14 peaks” of Lecco, a name that takes inspiration from the peaks of Mount Resegone, the mountain par excellence of the Como city. Notable guest was the coach and trainer Sergio Zorzi who in the post-tournament phases held meetings dedicated to the coaches and trainers of the participating clubs. It was a very qualified and demanding tournament which saw nine Lombard clubs at the start: DBM Sondalo, Lecco, Velate, Como, Varese, Bergamo, Rovato, Seregno and Nordmilano, for a total of 30 teams and 360 kids on the field. The three teams from the Under 8 team did very well, with the Under 8 team winning their qualifying group in a tournament with 12 teams and then losing the final to the hosts Lecco. After finishing third in the qualifying round, the Under 10s then won the final for 5th place, beating Rovato. The Under 12 team placed second in the qualifying group and then won the final for 3rd place.

Coaches: Paolo Parigi, Enzo Maffi.

An under 14 tournament was scheduled for the weekend in Rho but it was canceled at the last moment. So instead of a multi-team tournament, a single match was played on Sunday between the Milanese team and the Valtellina franchise. For Paolo Parigi’s fifteen it was yet another test of strength with the Valtellina team leading the game for the entire match. Rho only had one moment of glory at the beginning of the second half, when Sondralo deployed all the reserves, managing to come back from 8-29 to 22-29. Then the Valtellina players took control of the match and finished with a crescendo until the final score was 22-53. At the end of the race Paolo Parigi was satisfied with the collective test: “It was the last test before tackling the prestigious City of Treviso Trophy scheduled for 11 and 12 May. There will be the best teams at national level and also some foreign teams and we are going there to measure our strengths with these realities and with the intention of doing well”.

CUS MILAN – Sondalo 35-7

GATTICO – PROBE 38-21

FALCHI LOMELLINA – PROBE 5-26

PROBE IT: Federico Abordi, Christian Plozza, Silvio Mottini, Gioele Patroni, Pablo Lavizzari, Federico Bianchini, Gabriele Muti, Andrea Poletti, Enrique Peña, Gabriele Della Bosca. Coaches: Claudio Nobili, Vanni Patroni and Alessandro Cogliati.

Once the regional championship was over, the Valtellina franchise tried its hand at Rugby Seven played across the board, participating in the Gambolò quadrangular where they met Cus Milano, Falchi Lomellina and Gattico. In the first match against Cus Milano the Valtellina team started well but then suffered the technical superiority of the Milanese team and their lack of familiarity with the game formula. Second match with the hosts of Gattico who had lost in the first match against the Falchi Lomellina. In a hard-fought match full of reversals, the boys of Patroni and Nobili proved to be too listless, especially in defense and so another defeat resulted that could easily have been avoided. The third match saw Sondalo and Falchi Lomellina face each other. Here the music has totally changed, suddenly the people of Valtellina have woken up from their torpor and have literally destroyed the ambitions of the people of Pavia with a show of pride. Thus coach Patroni at the end of the tournament: “If the boys stopped doing what they want on the pitch without respecting the guidelines set and the schemes tested in training they would certainly reap much more than they sowed. It’s infuriating to see that when they stick to discipline they know how to play a good game and stand up to more renowned teams.”
