Stuart Hogg’s message: “I felt lost, I needed help”

On social media the Scotsman reveals: “It was hard. I felt lost, I needed help, direction, time away from the spotlight so I could take a deep breath and think. I was so worried about what people thought of me, how I was behaving, the impact I would have on them, and how I would survive each day. I lived every moment in my head and it wasn’t healthy.”

Then he added: “Spending time in a rehab center allowed me to reset, to get to know myself and express myself as I felt, without being judged. It wasn’t easy, but it was the right thing to do. Taking responsibility was the first step in the right direction. I accept that I made mistakes and understand why I acted the way I did. Personal and private issues are there for all to see and online abuse (insults) are things that have affected me significantly. I was unable to deal with the situation. Online abuse IS NOT OKAY.
Having some time away from it all has allowed me to see the world differently, to be grateful for the things I have and, above all, to be excited about what lies ahead in the short, medium and long term.” .

Finally he concluded by writing: “THANK YOU to everyone who wrote to me and offered support, friendship and love. You have helped me through my darkest moments and I can’t wait to embrace what’s to come with all of you.”
