Japan has launched many top-level sports bikes over the years, but now there is a model that is reminiscent of MotoGP.
The current one is certainly not the best period in history to be able to combine the name of Japan with MotoGP. The land of the Rising Sun has been the point of reference in the world of racing for years, with Yamaha and Honda which they have been able to dominate far and wide for some time.
In addition to them there was also Suzuki, with this one however deciding in 2022, in a completely unexpected way, to abandon the World Championship, despite winning the title only in 2020. MotoGP today it has developed greatly in the various aspects of aerodynamics and especially electronics, with these changes that have divided public opinion.
Anyone who is trying to get back on top in some way is there Yamaha, with the Iwata company which, not without a bit of luck, was able to achieve an excellent podium in the Sprint in Spain with Fabio Quartararo, then removed due to irregular tire pressure. The Frenchman is the spearhead of the Japanese company, capable of winning the World Championship in 2021, with him having renewed a pharaonic agreement with Yamaha.
Perhaps precisely the fact of living in very disappointing years and on the margins of MotoGP, makes the Japanese giant decide in some way to want to bring back a glorious past. This can be seen with one of the latest motorcycles launched on the market, with this sporty two-wheeler with a vintage look that aims to win over enthusiasts.
Yamaha XSR900 GP: the sports car that pays homage to the past
In recent years everyone has learned to appreciate the Yamaha with the classic blue color that has long distinguished it, but enthusiasts of the Japanese motorbike of the past remember it in white, yellow and red. These were the colors of Marlboro, with the well-known tobacco company being the official technical sponsor of Yamaha.
For this reason it was decided to focus on this livery, with the Yamaha XSR900 GP which was born as a tribute to the motorcycle that was popular on the track in the 80s. The dimensions show a two-wheeler with a length of 216 cm, a width of 81 cm and a height of 83 cm, with a weight of 180 kg.
The engine it mounts inside is a 900-displacement three-cylinder which gives it the opportunity to deliver a maximum of 119 horsepower. Speed management is regulated by a six-speed gearbox, with the maximum speed peak that is capable of reaching which is well 215 km/h.
The frame that uses the XSR900 GP it is the same Deltabox as the classic XSR900, however it has undergone modifications which have made it more resistant. You can also see the choice to use a rounded LED headlight, with the style of the XSR900 GP always remaining sporty. An iconic model that can be had for an overall affordable price, given that 13,749 Euros they are a more than logical and fair request for an excellent motorbike which recalls Yamaha’s history on the track.
